After just my first day of maintenance I'm up over 2 lbs of my ldw. I know I'm supposed to be eating plenty of protein right now so I'm not sure if I should do a steak day or not.

No. You are protein deprived. Eat protein 2 hours (2 ounces) just a bit then eat a large piece of lunch and protein (6-8 ounces) for dinner. If you don't understand what I mean let me know.

What did you eat yesterday?

Can you still be protein deprived after d5?? I dont think I ate enough protein the last five days!

What is your weight in relation to LDW, Slim?? If you are protein deprived, you rapidly begin to regain the weight and it can become a serious medical problem, but it happens pretty rapidly. I am assuming that is not the case with you after five days.

Can you still be protein deprived after d5?? I dont think I ate enough protein the last five days!Possible but highly unlikely. Usually that is an indivation of too much fat in the diet too fast or eating something processed.

I wouldn't worry about this at all, Slim. Looks like you are following protocol well and I will be anxious to see what your weight is today.

Well, that is a bit of a jump. Are you getting enough protein and water?? I find that not getting in all my water will really affect my weight. Are you taking the ACV? Are you exercising by any chance?? Post what you ate yesterday and today and let's see if anything pops.

Slim, I think you need more protein. I usually eat an entire roasted chicken throughout the day, and I don't think those wings are giving you much protein. Do you like fish and steak and shrimp and tuna? Are you eating the same thing everyday for a reason? Now is the time to start enjoying all the really great, healthy food you like, mixing your veggies...I love sauteed onions and mushrooms and my grilled steak. You defiitely are not adding in too much fat or dairy, I just think you are not eating enough, and I know that sounds strange. You really do need to increase your protein today and see how it goes.

Linda, chime in here when you get a chance :)

Slim, you are back down this morning, so that is a good thing. After four rounds, I totally agree with Melanie in that the more protein you eat, the better chance you have of staying in range. People get into trouble with to much fat and dairy, of course sugars and processed foods, not enough water and ot enough protein. If you love your wings, keep eating them. I just think you need more wings, I guess to get more protein. It doesn't make sense that eating more will keep us thin, but the key is more of the right things. It is a learning process and finding out what works for you, but I would suggest at least 6-8 ounces three times a day, and if you can't get it in at one time, break it up into smaller meals and snack more.

Nancy....do you roast your own chicken or do you buy the roasted chickens at the grocery store? I'm not sure what they put on those - I suppose I could ask.

I actually buy the roasted ones at the grocery, but we are supposed to roast our own. The store bought do have sugar, but that is one consistent "cheat" I allowed myself, and I did not have a problem. But I know Linda tells us to avoid those. Many of the other ladies just put lemon and onions and fresh herbs in the cavity and salt and pepper well, with a bit of EVOO on the skin. I actually saw Olivia Newton John on The Chew a few weeks ago and that was her signature dish...oven roasted chicken and that is exactly how she cooked her's. I just tend to be a bit lazy in the kitchen.

Thanks for the info.....I have no problem roasting my own but sometimes it's easier after a hard day to just pick one up already made. We have a "Fresh Market" in my area - they're kind of like an upscale Whole Foods - more expensive but everything is very fresh and clean. I may just pop in there and ask what's on their roasted chickens.

You simply are not eating enough protein. Wings have NO meat on them.

I checked the roasted chickens at the Fresh Market and they do indeed have sugar in them.....so I guess I'll be roasting my own.

Before this diet I didn't realize just how many foods have preservatives and additives in them - I'm sure most of them are completely unnecessary.

nancybaggot
05-24-2012, 02:18 PM
Absolutely! You wonder why they don't just roast them with some salt and pepper and a little butter or oil...I am sure that would be fine, since the chickens are fresh anyway. And they have those wonderful roasting machines. I usually get mine at Sam's, but maybe your upscale Whole Foods will be more health conscious. I have also used my crock pot to roast both chicken and duck when we lived out of the country, so that might be an option for you as well.

Yes, store bought roasted protein is not advised.

And I knew you were going to say this, too, without a doubt. You really did teach us all very well, some of us are just a bit rogue :)
